You fail to see any brightness in your future, you feel like you’re stuck in a rut and there is no escape to it. Living with the groundhog day syndrome can be very frustrating and you start losing hope about your future.

You feel like you’re trapped in your own life and you’re going in circles when you should be moving ahead in life. There is a lingering feeling of stagnancy, dullness, and hopelessness.  However, you can stop the vicious cycle and jump out of it by simply changing your mindset and some lifestyle changes.

Effective Ways To Deal With Groundhog Day Syndrome

Experts say groundhog day syndrome occurs because of a phenomenon called habituation. Habituation is when our response begins to decrease because of repeated exposure to similar stimuli.

Your brain has already created a neural pathway for those challenges, therefore, nothing is exciting for your brain to do, limiting your dopamine supply.

However, to help you overcome the feeling of living a life on repeat, here are a few things you can do;

1. Be more mindful while doing regular activities: even though you are living a monotonous life, being mindful and physically & mentally present can be very helpful. It will help you learn more information, making way for new opportunities.

2. Try new ways to accomplish your regular tasks: to cut the monotony you need to make some way to change. Begin with small things like food, try new cuisines or try to change the way you dress, try a new hobby, etc.

3. Have a plan for weekends: try to venture into new adventures during your days off from work. Schedule new activities to do during weekends so that you’re always doing something different.

4. Try changing your routine: I know you’ve been doing things the same way for a long time, perhaps that’s the reason for your misery. Try to change a few things in your routine, maybe add healthy habits to your existing routines.

5. Makes some changes at your workplace: it is not necessary to be working like a machine. Try to engage in some activities in the workplace to make it more enjoyable. Don’t forget to take mental breaks so that you don’t feel overwhelmed all the time.

6. Engage in some brain exercise: just like physical exercise is good for your body, mental exercise is good for your brain. Try to indulge in some brain activities like puzzles or brain-training games so that you have a good release of happy hormones.

7. Keep a note of what you have been doing: you must keep a check on yourself, it’s very easy to think about doing new things but not actually doing them. By the end of each day, ask yourself, “what have I done differently today?”
