When you look at innocent kids, you see them so stress-free that you wish to reverse back the time for yourself. Alas, there is no turning back in life but there is a way by adopting which you can enjoy your life like a small kid. And this way goes through the path of letting go of your ego.

Although we know that ego can create differences between a group of people, hinder workflow, makes you inexpressive, and even breaks the cycle of inner growth, yet some of us find it difficult to completely drop it off. There is a saying, ‘Ego is just like dust in eyes. Without clearing the dust, you can’t see anything.

So clear the ego and see the world’, and it aptly explains the need for ego to brush aside. Ok, understood but how to let go of ego? Well, you are about to explore the box of happiness right below!

How to Let Go Of Your Ego:

1. Learn Forgiveness

“The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong.”~ Mahatma Gandhi

We are hurt when someone plays an unfavorable act but holding the grudges against them is simply not how you deal with situations if you want to have a smooth life. Imagine the face of the person with whom you are angry at this moment for whatsoever reason, now take a deep breath and tell yourself, ‘I forgive him and I am letting it go’. Repeat it until you finally let all the negativity flush out.

As you move forward, you will notice that your soul has become free from the clutches and when you meet the same person again, you just feel like smiling and nothing else!

2. Cut The Need To Win Or Being Always Right

“The ego wants quantity but the soul wants quality.”

If you run ‘into’ the competition of always winning or always being right, you will neither be able to find peace within nor look at the other creative dimensions of life. Try stepping out and look at the view as a spectator for a moment. Yes, you will find that your ego can hide other beauties of this world. So drop the need to win every time and you will notice a transformation in your soul very soon. Moreover, there is nothing sweeter than the taste of freedom from unnecessary pleasures.

3. Practice Gratitude

“Gratitude is the best medicine. It heals the mind, your body and your spirit. And attracts more things to be grateful for.”

Embracing and thanking for every tiny thing in your life makes you understand that each of their roles matter. From breathing fresh morning air to enjoying luxury car drive, it all teaches that nothing is any less important. Moreover, when gratitude comes in the picture, your ego wraps itself in a sheet and gets back in the closet.

In fact, you should be thankful for all the mistakes in your past as they are the reason that you are standing strong today. So start appreciating and keep all your complaints a little low!

4. Practice Apology When You Are Wrong

“Never ruin an apology with an excuse.”

If you are seeking an answer for how to let go of your ego, this point is a deal-breaker. A lot of us always take a step back or sit quietly when our mistakes come into the limelight and apology is the only solution. Believe it or not, apologizing to someone you feel you should not can make you powerful inside. Moreover, you not just let go of your ego but also gain respect in the eyes of others or the person whom you have apologized to.

‘I am sorry’ or ‘You were right’ could really improve a lot of relationships and make them comfortable to be around with you once again.

 5. Feedbacks Are Just Constructive Criticism

What is our reaction when someone gives us feedback in the office? And that too in a loud tone? We simply get angry and even feel like abusing the person. But how many of us actually listen to the feedback and use it for doing things better? Very less, right? This is why you need to let go of your ego.

In some time, no one will bother about the criticism you went through but they will definitely praise your work afterward for a long period of time. In fact, you will be happy to see your own growth rather than taking it as a setback.

A Word From Author

When I let go of my ego, I realized that I don’t hate anyone anymore. But, since I cannot suddenly change my emotions, I drew a very safe line between us which keeps both parties comfortable at their places. With that, apologizing to my driver for being rude once made him smile and there was an inner satisfaction in me. Although I am personally working on taking criticism positively, it may still take a little time. But no worries, I am constantly moving forward to let go of my ego!

And I wish you try for the same as well!
